If you love tacos, and I mean REAL tacos, not the weight watchers fish tacos that have housewives and celebrities going coocoobananas, you definitely need to check out El Progreso #14. If you're afraid of the south side of Atlanta, (south of the zoo) then maybe skip this one. Just know that you'll be missing out on some of the best tacos that I've ever personally experienced. Disclaimer: I haven't been to Mexico yet, so I can't compare them to the real deal - but these are really freaking good.

El Progreso #14 is a supermercado for your everyday amigo. It's got great prices on produce, meats, and bakery items. It also boasts a great candy section for those who love some spice with their sweet. However, at the very back of El Progreso there's a little bitty restaurant that is open from about 9:00am-9:00pm. While it looks like a sketchy pop-up worked by a few lovely humans that maybe know five words of English, you probably won't find a better taco in Atlanta. I am 100% comfortable saying this. If you have any alternatives, please comment below.
The menu boasts multiple tacos for $1.50, tortas(sandwiches) and burritos for about $8.00, and house specials all under $10.00. I highly recommend ordering from the picture section of the menu that hands above the grill on a Saturday or Sunday starting with the Caldo de Mariscos (seafood soup).
Taco break down:
The tacos are served on two warm, soft, corn tortillas with your choice of meat. I personally recommend the Asada (steak), Pastor (marinated pork that will make you see God), and the Chorizo (spicy sausage). All tacos are served covered in chopped white onion and cilantro with a lime wedge to flavor, do yourself a favor, use the lime wedge. They also offer a spicy (three chili's warning label kind of spicy) red salsa to put on your tacos, and a milder green salsa. (Both will make you chug any drink that you've purchased, but the red one is scary spicy.)
The tacos are small enough to where you can order two-three different ones, four if you're super hungover and need a little kickstart to your day.
The drinks work one of two ways, you can order a drink from the counter (get the horchata!) or you can grab a drink from the cooler before you order. They have multiple drink options that are made fresh in store, but I highly recommend (like always) the horchata.

In my humble opinion, El Progreso #14 is rated as such solely for it's fun little taco stand:
Atmosphere: 3 stars - not always the cleanest space, but there's ample seating. Three cafeteria-style tables are set up with napkin dispensers and salsa is put out.Menu: 3 stars - So much to choose from and so little time!
Service: 2 stars (unless you speak Spanish - friendly warning, this is their turf, if you come in acting like everyone will bend over backward for you solely because you speak English, you're in for a rude awakening.)
Value: 4 stars - Excellent tacos for a great price. Everything is honestly underpriced so you're really getting an excellent deal on anything you order. This just so happens to be a taco post, which is probably the best deal on the menu.
Until next time! Aproveche Atlanta!
